I moved to San Antonio with my husband in September 2010, for he got a postdoctoral position job at the medical center. Before I came here, I lived in Beijing, China. I was a radiologist when I was in China. Now I am a Chinese language teacher. I teach kids mandarin, Chinese children’s songs and origami. I love to be with children and it makes me feel younger. I love cooking, swimming and jogging. I love San Antonio. It is a peaceful city and people here are very nice.
What brought you to the Bikram yoga practice?
Before I practice Bikram yoga, I did some regular yoga. One day my husband found a coupon for Bikram yoga online. He encouraged me to try it. At that time I did not exactly know what the Bikram yoga was. I did some research and learned something about Bikram from the internet. Because yoga is my new favorite avocation after I came to San Antonio. I want to learn more about it.
How often do you practice?
I practice 5 times a week.
What specific physical issues, if any, did you have before taking your first class?
I don’t have specific physical problem. I believe prevention beats treatment. But I used to have great pressure from my job and life before I practiced yoga. Now I feel much better and very satisfied with my simple and peaceful life.
What are the greatest benefits of your practice?
I feel stronger, healthier, and happier. I love food, but sometimes I can’t control myself with food. After I’ve practiced Bikram yoga, I do not over-eat any more.
How has this practice changed your health and life? Any emotional or other benefits?
Bikram yoga changed me a lot. I learned how to relax, concentrate, and compete with myself rather than others. I’m more patient than before. Maybe this is the reason that my husband supports me to insist on doing this hot yoga.
What is your favorite part of Bikram yoga?
I like the excellent teachers and yogis in BYSA. I can feel they are full of energy and happiness when I walk into the studio. I like the yoga itself. It is an art of strength, balance and flexibility. After 90 minutes hard work, I feel relaxed, energetic, happier and more confident. Yoga is a great treasure. My exploration is just beginning.
